Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Spacebuster is a browser game published on this site ("the Game", "we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Game handles, why, and what you can do about it.
Spacebuster does not require an account. You can play the entire campaign without giving us your name, an email address, or any other direct identifier.
2. The short version
- Your save file — progress, credits, upgrades, purchases and local scores — lives in your own browser storage. We do not hold a copy.
- If a rankings server is enabled, your three-character callsign and score are sent to it. That is the only gameplay data that leaves your device.
- Advertising partners may receive device and advertising identifiers when an ad is shown.
- Payment is handled entirely by the platform store or payment processor. We never see your card details.
- We do not sell your personal information.
3. Information stored on your device
The Game writes a local record under the key spacebuster.save.v1 using your browser's local storage. It contains:
- Campaign progress and unlocked sectors
- Credits, purchased upgrades and entitlement flags (for example, whether ads are removed)
- Your chosen callsign and your local run scores
- A record of ad impressions served and the estimated value of those impressions
- A local receipt ledger for purchases made in the Game
This record stays in your browser. Clearing site data deletes it, and deleted progress cannot be restored by us. Private browsing, ad-blocking extensions and storage-clearing settings may prevent the Game from saving progress at all.
4. Leaderboard data
The Game keeps a local rankings table built from your own runs. If the operator of this site configures a remote leaderboard endpoint, each submitted run transmits:
- Your three-character callsign
- Your score and the sector reached
- A randomly generated run identifier and a timestamp
Do not use your real name as a callsign. A remote leaderboard is public by design: submitted entries can be shown to other players. Where a remote leaderboard is in use, the endpoint operator processes this data on our behalf and retains it on their own schedule.
5. Advertising
The Game is supported by advertising. Two placements exist: an interstitial between sectors and a rewarded video used to revive after a defeat.
In the current build, ad creatives are rendered locally from a mock catalogue and no network request is made. When a third-party ad network is enabled, that network may collect:
- Device and advertising identifiers (for example an advertising ID, device model, operating system)
- Approximate location derived from IP address, at city or region level
- IP address, browser type and language
- Ad interaction data: whether an ad was displayed, completed or clicked
Those partners act as independent controllers for the data they collect for their own purposes and are governed by their own privacy policies. Typical categories are mobile ad networks, mediation platforms and web ad exchanges.
Where the law requires consent for personalised advertising, it is requested through the network's consent flow before personalised ads are served. You can refuse personalised advertising and still play; the Game continues to work and may show non-personalised ads instead.
6. Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by the platform you play through — the Apple App Store, Google Play, or a web payment processor. That provider is the merchant of record: it collects your payment details, tax information and billing address, and it handles refunds. We receive only a confirmation that a product was purchased, plus an order or transaction identifier.
7. Hosting and server logs
The site is served through a content delivery network. The CDN and any hosting provider process technical data in the course of delivering pages — IP address, requested URL, user agent, timestamp and security signals — and may set strictly necessary cookies for bot mitigation and load balancing. The Game itself sets no cookies.
8. Why we process this data
- To run the Game — saving your progress and entitlements locally. Necessary for performance of our agreement with you.
- To serve ads and measure revenue — legitimate interest, or consent where required by local law.
- To keep leaderboards — legitimate interest in operating the feature you chose to use.
- To meet legal obligations — tax, accounting and fraud prevention.
9. How long we keep it
Local save data stays until you clear it. Remote leaderboard entries are kept while the rankings service operates, or until you ask for removal. Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Server logs are short-lived and rotate on the CDN's schedule.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also complain to your local supervisory authority.
If you are in Malaysia, the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 applies. You may request access to and correction of your personal data, limit the processing of it, or withdraw consent, by writing to the address in section 15. We respond within 21 days. Complaints can be made to the Personal Data Protection Commissioner.
Because the Game holds no account, most requests are satisfied by clearing your browser storage. The Data Deletion page wipes the local save in one click and takes leaderboard removal requests. For anything else, write to [email protected] with your callsign and approximate date of play.
We do not sell personal information and we do not knowingly share it for cross-context behavioural advertising except through the ad partners described above, which you can refuse as set out in section 5.
11. Children
The Game is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted a leaderboard entry, contact us and we will remove it.
12. International transfers
Hosting and advertising providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent legal mechanism.
13. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure; the Game deliberately keeps the sensitive surface small by holding no accounts and no payment data on the server side.
14. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the Game's data handling changes, and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be signposted in the Game.
